Lincoln J. Tamayo – Head of School
Lincoln received his B.A. in History from the University of Notre Dame, his J.D. from The University of Florida College of Law, and his Ed.M., Administration, Planning, and Social Policy from Harvard University. In December 2002, Lincoln assumed the responsibilities as Academy Prep Center of Tampa’s Head of School, and since 2005 has also served as Vice President of Operations. In addition to serving as Academy Prep Center of Lakeland’s Head of School, he oversees the operations of all Academy Prep campuses. In 2001 and 2002, he was Chairman of English for the Children of Massachusetts, the successful initiative petition campaign to reform the bilingual education laws of Massachusetts. He was subsequently invited by Governor-elect Mitt Romney to serve on Mr. Romney’s transition team through January 2003. From 1997 to 2001, he was Principal of Chelsea High School in Chelsea, MA, as well as the lead principal of Chelsea’s two middle schools. He has also served as Assistant to the President of Boston University, Secretary to the Boston University Board of Trustees, Assistant to the Chairman of the Massachusetts Board of Education, a community columnist for the editorial board of the Tampa Tribune, and a member of the Board of Trustees for Jesuit High School (Tampa). He currently serves as a member of the boards of trustees for the Tampa Museum of Art and Cristo Rey High School of Tampa, as well as the Citizens Review Board for the Tampa Police Department and on the Community Advisory Board of the Junior League of Tampa.
Amanda Fleischbein- Assistant Head of School
Amanda received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Education from the University of South Carolina and her M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from the University of South Florida. She began her career with Academy Prep in 2010 as an AmeriCorps volunteer, later teaching both History and Art. Amanda is thrilled to help students reach their full potential at Academy Prep.
Ron Scarcelli- Technology Coordinator

A graduate of Dominican College in Racine WI, Ron has taught mathematics from middle school through community college as well as computer science at the high school level. After he became a Novell certified network administrator he became the director of technology at Jesuit High School, Tampa. As director, he oversaw every aspect of technology implementation at the school including their 1-to-1 iPad initiative, live video streaming of sports broadcasts & student news shows, a state-of-the-art VOIP phone system and data migrations to the school information systems. Besides math & technology, Ron has taught band at two schools in his career and he is currently lead trumpet and President of the Voices of Jazz big band in Pinellas County. A huge sports – Bucs, Rays & a Die-Hard Cubs – fan, Ron has coached baseball, softball, football, wrestling, track and golf in his career. Ron is thrilled to work at Academy Prep as his goal is bring the most innovative technology to the classroom and make it simple to use.
Steve Abrahams- Chess Teacher
Mr. Steve Abrahams has been teaching chess professionally since 2012 and has taught over 10,000 students in six states and Washington D.C.! His teams have won local, state, and national titles. Mr. Abrahams holds a Bachelor of Science in Marketing Communications, is a National Chess Expert and the youngest ever American-born FIDE trainer through the International Chess Federation. He has been published in several international chess journals and sites including: chess.com, chess life magazine, chessbase.com and ChessKid.com. Mr. Abrahams is excited to build a championship Academy Prep chess team!
Johnel F. Bracey-Boys’ Math and Science Teacher
Originally from Connecticut, Mr. Bracey earned his Bachelor of Science in Sport and Recreation Management from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He began with Academy Prep in 2009 and enjoys the freedom to create methods of inspiring and empowering students to fulfill their dreams.
Santia Enid Garcia- Visual Arts Teacher
Mrs. Santia Garcia was born in Puerto Rico and raised in Connecticut. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and Education from Central Connecticut State University and her Master’s in Educational Leadership from the University of South Florida. Mrs. Garcia has been teaching since 1997. In 2012 she was awarded Teacher of the Year at Denison Middle School (Winter Haven, Florida). Her students have been recognized and displayed at the College Board Accelerated Program Award Winner, the Salvador Dali Museum of Art, the Polk Museum of Art Transcendence High School Exhibition, 15th Congressional Competition, Art Out Loud, and at Munn Park annual student art exhibition. Mrs. Garcia is excited to be part of the Academy Prep team, knowing that she is teaching at a place which demonstrates love for each student by placing them first and focusing on their future.
Gina Guthrie- Boys’ English and History Teacher
Ms. Gina Guthrie earned her Bachelor of Psychology and MBA from the University of Florida. A proud gator, Ms. Guthrie raised her family in the Brandon/Valrico area. She taught at a number of schools throughout Hillsborough county before coming to Academy Prep and loves the way Academy Prep is a true family, caring for students and their families together!
Martha Kamara- AmeriCorps Specialist- Academic Support
Ms. Martha Kamara was born in Maryland, but grew up in Clearwater, Florida. She attended Palm Harbor University High School where she was part of their Center of Wellness magnet program her first two years before transferring to St. Petersburg College’s Early College Program. During her two years at St. Petersburg College, Martha was afforded the opportunity to sit on their Student Government Association’s executive board and to victoriously compete in several international Model United Nations’ conferences. During this period, Ms. Kamara took part in various professional conferences and community volunteer opportunities. In 2017, Ms. Kamara graduated from high school and the Early College Program and transferred to the University of South Florida to complete her Bachelor’s in International Studies. She graduated May 2019. Ms. Kamra’s mission for this year is to pass down the knowledge, lessons, and support she was gifted from her time in early college down to the Academy Prep students.
Sam Krupit- Physical Education Teacher
Originally from Ivyland, Pennsylvania, Mr. Krupit earned his degree in business management from Towson University. After working in marketing and management for several years, Mr. Krupit realized just how much he missed coaching and decided to take a role at Academy Prep. He loves sports, being outside, and working with students to help them achieve their goals.
Diana Mallory- Senior Admin Assistant
Originally from New York, Mrs. Mallory moved to Florida in 2019 with her husband and son. She earned her master’s degree from Long Island University after serving in the Marine Corps. Mrs. Mallory handles all things scholarship, student recruitment, prospective student testing, and meals.
Andrea Melli- AmeriCorps Specialist- Academic Support
A Tampa native, Ms. Melli first earned her Associates in Liberal Arts from Hillsborough Community College, before graduating from Florida State University with a Bachelor of Arts in History. She was a Publix Culture Ambassador and a substitute Teacher for Wakulla County Schools, before she accepted her current position as an AmeriCorps Teacher at Academy Prep. Andrea is humbled to have the opportunity to serve the Lakeland community and its children in the coming year.
Michelle Phelps- School Manager
Michelle earned her Bachelor of Arts in Social Science Education from the University of South Florida and is a certified Florida Workplace Professional. After teaching 8th grade history for several years, Michelle found her home in the non-profit world, working behind the scenes to help organizations meet their missions. She often jokes that she strives to live a faith-filled and purposeful life while keeping the supply closet stocked. Ms. Phelps loves Academy Prep’s determination to accomplish our mission. Her personal philosophy is to empower people to themselves make the changes they want to see in the world, and loves doing just that at Academy Prep!
Monica Pollock- Girls’ English and History Teacher
Ms. Monica Pollock has been with Academy Prep since 2011 and has worked at all three of our campuses! Originally from Miami, Florida, Ms. Pollock earned her Bachelor of English from the University of South Florida. She loves Academy Prep’s ability to change the lives of not only students, but families. She knows that it is a special place that prepares students not just for the next step in education, but for life.
Breonna Saulter- Administrative Assistant
A Lakeland native, Ms. Saulter is currently working on her degree in psychology from Southeastern University. She loves that Academy Prep helps bring out the best in students and is looking forward to seeing students achieve great things!
Jacqui Worthy- Administrative Assistant
Jacquelyn (or Jacqui) has developed her approaches to administration through 30 yeas of experience. An additional thirteen years of Human Resources experience round out her wealth of knowledge, resource and expertise within the field. Her love of youth and attachment to education has been fostered by six years of youth pastoring allowing her to develop an appreciation for educational strategies and a perspective of the specific constraints of molding young minds. Ms. Jacqui loves the discipline that the Academy Prep schools offer, as well as the expectations that the staff places to vault our students and their families well beyond their barriers into a realm of excellence and potential fulfilled. She is excited to do her part to join the staff that prides itself as those who lend a heartfelt hand to reshape our communities.
